Morning report F/330 for January 12, 1945

Record of events: As of 7 Jan 45 - Company less 1st Platoon, with platoon of tanks, advanced along highway No. 3 with Verleumont as objective. Town taken without casualties. 23 prisoners taken. 1st Platoon attached to E Co, took high ground left of town. Company then pushed on down highway until stopped by direct firing weapons. Moved to present location (1/2 Mi SE Verleumont) & dug in for night. 1st Platoon rejoined company in evening. As of 8 Jan 45 - Company moved out with armor & followed G Co to Joubieval. Pushed through G Co and moved on highway No. 4 to high ground beyond town which was objective. Co expected to be relieved, but due to changed orders was kept on line. Organized defense over extremely wide sector. 2nd Platoon with machine gun squad attached, was given mission of establishing road block at 376358475. Mission failed because of enemy roadblock in that position. At 2100 company was ordered to send vigorous patrols to front and at 2300 company was ordered to establish road block at 67238540 at bridge. Mission finally accomplished by Patrol under Lt. Finch next morning at 0830. Men suffering from exposure to blinding snow and extreme cold. Casualties heavy in comparison to company strenght. Total of approximately 30 prisoners taken. Morale very low. As of 9 Jan 45 - Company remained in same locality. 2nd Bn 329 Inf passed thru company at left sector. Maintained road block. Patroled to 3 different points to prevent infiltration by enemy forces into friendly areas. Company relieved by Co E at 1630. Last element used to guide relieving elements to take over road blocks & outposts immediately behind assault units of 329 Inf. Company returned to billets in Joubieval. In spite of poor billets morale improved due to good hot food & chance to thew out. As of 10 Jan 45 - Company remained in same position and received replacements. Spent day resting, cleaning up, and reorganization. As of 11 Jan 45 - Company moved back up on hill and relieved Co E. Holding high ground taken on 8th. Morale still low.
